Location
The community of Cultus Lake is located approximately 90 km southeast of Vancouver, B.C. and just minutes from the rapidly growing city of Chilliwack. Access to the community is off Highway #1, exiting at either Yarrow (Exit #104 – No. 3 Road) or Chilliwack (Exit #119 – Vedder Road).
History
Established in 1948, Cultus Lake Provincial Park is situated within Electoral Area H of the Fraser Valley Regional District, spans 656 hectares of land and has since been enjoyed for many generations by visitors and residents alike.
The original land was given to the City of Chilliwack, in trust, by the Crown in the early 1900s. As its recreational potential gained in popularity, the Cultus Lake Parks Board was formed to govern the area, and shortly thereafter residential development at the north end of the lake began to emerge.
Although not included within the Parks borders, recreational development at the south end of the lake accelerated in the 1950s to include a number of smaller, holiday inspired communities supported by recreational amenities.
In more recent years, both developed areas of Cultus Lake have transformed considerably. Many of the older homes at the north side are being renovated or re-built, while the south side is experiencing intensive community-based development and re-development of dated recreational sites.
Life at the Lake
Today, the Cultus Lake community at large has many seasonal and full-time residents, with an estimated 1200 private dwellings and over 1 million annual visitors.
Cultus Lake draws people searching for community and lifestyle. Aside from its freshwater lake, mountainous landscape and small town vibe, a range of outdoor activities exist right in its backyard; walking, hiking, biking, water sports, golf, fishing and gardening to name a few.
In addition to the primary school and Fire Department, the community offers over 20 different businesses including an outdoor waterslide and adventure ride park, an 18 hole golf course, restaurants and shops, a service station, post office and superette. Minutes away, the City of Chilliwack offers known grocers, retail shops, theatres, restaurants and cafes, as well as hospitals, community centres, professional offices and various independently owned businesses.
With the accelerating demand for recreational property in the lower mainland, Cultus Lake has become and will continue to be one of the most popular destination areas for Lower Mainland residents.
